Sumitomo Electric Networks Inc. took part in the first interoperability test of DPoETM (DOCSIS Provisioning of EPON) 1.0. Sumitomo Electric Networks brought DPoETM System and DPoETM ONU into the interoperability test, and completed all tests.

The event was hosted by CableLabs in Louisville, Colo., with other DPoETM vendors taking part from January 24 through 28.

Sumitomo Electric Networks, with a history of interoperability with other GE-PON vendors, is committed to the continued success and progress of DPoETM standardization activities and looks forward to participating in DPoETM continued interoperability tests in the future, says a company spokesperson.

Sumitomo Electric Networks plans to release a DPoETM-capable system this year.

GE-PON, Gigabit Ethernet-passive optical network, is a standard for fiber-optic networks suitable for FTTH applications. In Japan, GE-PON is a dominant standard for FTTH and is the underlying networking technology within the DPoETM specification.
