Draka BendBright-Elite fiber completes independent lab testing
SEPTEMBER 2, 2010 -- Draka Communications Americas (NYSE EURONEXT: DRAKA) says that its newest ultra bend insensitive fiber has completed independent lab testing. Branded as Draka BendBright-Elite, this new ultra bend insensitive fiber can tolerate bends as small as 5 mm while achieving attenuation values less than 0.1 dB, the company asserts.
Draka BendBright-Elite fiber complies with ITU G.657 A1, A2, B2, and B3, meaning it maintains backwards compatibility with legacy singlemode fiber.
"Draka cables containing BendBright-Elite fiber can tolerate as many as one hundred fifty 90-degree bends and 500 crown staples without experiencing power loss greater than 0.1 dB. This level of performance makes our new fiber a perfect application for multiple dwelling units (MDUs), central offices, enterprises, and retail centers where cables will be exposed to difficult installation routes or congestion of existing cables," states Jack Rosko, marketing manager at Draka Communications.
Draka completed the test program in August 2010.
A large number of products are available with BendBright-Elite fiber. In North America, BendBright-Elite is available in premises and outside plant cables. Draka introduced the BendBright family of bend insensitive fibers in 2002 and has since expanded the product family to four versions of bend insensitive fiber, spanning both singlemode and multimode types:
- BendBright – 10X bend improvement versus standard singlemode
- BendBright-XS – 7.5-mm bend radius fiber with over 6 billion feet sold
- BendBright -Elite – 5-mm bend radius fiber
- MaxCap-BB – OM3 & OM4 bend insensitive multimode fiber
