Calix, Inc. (NYSE:CALX) says it has expanded its AXOS systems to the emerging hoteliers market segment to help hospitality brands address evolving broadband demands as guests bring more devices and have higher service expectations when traveling.
Hospitality brands are upgrading their guest experience to include always-on connectivity, coverage for guest devices, and broadband speed and performance by employing AXOS-enhanced fiber-to-the-room (FTTR) systems, says Calix. Earlier this year, Calix added new capabilities, including power-over-Ethernet (PoE) optimized for hoteliers, to its fiber portfolio alongside system modularity and Carrier Class Wi-Fi support. The company says its AXOS E7-2 Intelligent Modular System can support hospitality environments, and offers modularity and support for GPON, XGS-PON, and NG-PON2. According to Calix, its AXOS E-Series systems, GigaFamily for carrier-class Wi-Fi, and optical network terminals (ONTs) to accommodate various use cases, have already been deployed by several hoteliers worldwide.
These customers include two global hotelier brands, which Calix did not identify, that have chosen AXOS for their FTTR initiatives to meet various deployment needs, including support of high-end IP and existing POTS and RF video services, says Calix. Currently, Calix hospitality systems have exceeded global property network standards at one major hotel chain, while a 30,000 room FTTR project with another large hospitality brand has begun throughout multiple resort properties.
Calix has also broadened its partner base as part of the hospitality market expansion, adding VT Group, a service provider of turnkey broadband for several global hotel brands, to the Calix channel partner program. Following the testing of Calix systems by the Converged Technology Integration (CTI) lab at VT Group, the companies have several new projects underway, Calix says.
Other PON providers have targeted the hotelier market as well. For example, San Francisco's Hotel VIA deployed the DASAN Zhone Solutions FiberLAN GPON to provide improved services at its 159-room hotel (see "Hotel VIA deploys DZS FiberLAN GPON in San Francisco").
