STL High Fiber Count Ribbon and Cables - TruRibbon

Feb. 20, 2020
TruRibbon uses multiple fibers with 200 mm of diameter, with a 250-mm pitch, followed by application of a flexible matrix material.
STL says its proprietary ribbon technology, TruRibbon, has been designed to maintain the splicing and handling benefits of the traditional flat ribbon cables while reducing the overall diameter of the cable. TruRibbon uses multiple fibers with 200 mm of diameter, with a 250-mm pitch, followed by application of a flexible matrix material. The matrix takes a corrugated shape, leading to less space consumption than typical ribbon cables.

Judge’s comment: “This is a unique concept, using a flexible matrix material to ribbonize optical fibers with a 250-mm pitch and resulting in a corrugated shape that allows for improved stacking of the ribbon fibers. The resulting 30% reduction in stack height allows for significantly reduced overall fiber cable diameters.”
