Sumitomo Electric Lightwave has introduced its next-generation single-fiber core alignment fusion splicer, the Quantum Type-Q101-CA-PLUS.

Sumitomo Electric Lightwave has introduced its next-generation single-fiber core alignment fusion splicer, the Quantum Type-Q101-CA-PLUS.

The fusion splicer boasts increased speed to maximize splicing and cost-efficiencies for fiber-to-the-x (FTTx), data center networks, and other communication network applications. Its use of Wi-Fi for splice data transfer and support of other work-related features via mobile apps is an industry first, the company adds.

To increase productivity and provide faster connectivity in network installations, restorations, and moves, adds, and changes, the Quantum CA-PLUS maintains all of the qualities and features of its predecessor, the Quantum Type-Q101-CA, while reaching what the vendor claims are new levels of speed and cost-efficiency by reducing heater shrink time from 28 to 14 seconds.

This new speed, coupled by dual independent ovens, makes the QuantumCA-PLUS the fastest in the industry, the vendor asserts. The dual independent heat shrink system eliminates the heat waiting time for streamlined, consecutive splices — increasing splicing efficiency by over 80%.

Sumitomo Electric has designed the new unit with a fully navigational touch screen. With what the company says is the smallest and lightest footprint among core-alignment splicers, the Quantum CA-PLUS comes in a rugged package that complies with the most stringent shock, waterproof, and dust resistance requirements.

The splicer is also compatible with Sumitomo Electric Lightwave's Lynx2 CustomFit Splice-On Connectors for real-time and on-site field installable connectivity.

The Quantum CA-PLUS is available immediately for delivery.
