NH towns receive broadband boost courtesy of state grants and Consolidated Communications
Business broadband provider Consolidated Communications will partner with the State of New Hampshire and several towns to invest nearly $18 million in broadband service expansion and enhancements. NH’s “Connecting NH Emergency Broadband Expansion Program” awarded $3.5 million in grants to Consolidated toward building high-speed, fiber-to-the-premises Internet networks to homes and businesses in Danbury, Springfield, and Mason, along with a separate grant to upgrade existing Internet service in Errol. Consolidated will invest nearly $1.5 million to support the projects.
In June, NH Governor Chris Sununu authorized $50 million from the state’s CARES ACT Coronavirus Relief Fund to the creation of the program by which more than 2,500 residents and businesses will receive new or upgraded Internet services. This latest effort comes on the heels of more than $112 million already invested by Consolidated over the past two years.
“Now more than ever, we know how important reliable, high-speed Internet is for residents and business owners,” says Rob Koester, senior vice president of consumer product at Consolidated. “We’re ready and eager to work with representatives from our partner towns in New Hampshire to boost economic development, e-commerce and quality-of-life benefits for residents and ensure they stay connected.”
