Concord, NH celebrates new Gig Town status
Community leaders, local partners, and residents recently gathered to celebrate Concord's designation as a Fidium “Gig Town,” marking the city's connection to Fidium’s fiber broadband internet network. The recognition, celebrated during a recent ceremonial ribbon-cutting with the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce, highlights fast, reliable, future-ready connectivity across all three communities. The Gig Town designation reflects the continued expansion of fiber connectivity across New Hampshire, as more communities gain access to next-generation broadband that supports economic opportunity, innovation and quality of life.

GoNetspeed slates City of Amsterdam, NY to join growing New York fiber network
GoNetspeed plans to bring its fiber network to Amsterdam. Backed by a privately funded $10 million investment, the expansion will bring symmetrical, multigigabit Internet speeds of up to 6 Gbps to more than 8,700 homes and businesses. Construction is slated to begin this winter, with the first Amsterdam households and businesses expected to access GoNetspeed’s fiber network as early as spring of 2027. With momentum continuing to build across New York, Amsterdam will soon join more than 30 communities already served by GoNetspeed, including Buffalo, Utica and the Finger Lakes region. Building on the recent launch of service in both Oneonta and Norwich, GoNetspeed continues to expand its future-proof fiber network across the Northeast.

Spectrum’s rural broadband initiative reaches Montcalm County, Michigan
Spectrum is expanding its fiber broadband network, making Spectrum Internet, Mobile, TV and Voice services now available to more than 1,700 additional homes and businesses in previously unserved or underserved areas of Montcalm County, Michigan. The buildout included portions within the townships of Belvidere, Bloomer, Bushnell, Cato, Crystal, Douglass, Evergreen, Ferris, Maple Valley, Montcalm, Pine, Reynolds, Sidney and Winfield. Spectrum’s multi-year rural construction initiative is driven by more than $7 billion in private investment from Spectrum. It will ultimately add 100,000 miles of fiber network infrastructure and deliver symmetrical and multi-gigabit speeds to more than 1.7 million new locations across the country. The expansion was funded in part by a Realizing Opportunity with Broadband Infrastructure Networks (ROBIN) Broadband Grant, a joint effort between Spectrum and the Michigan High-Speed Internet Office (MIHI) to deliver high-speed internet to unserved communities. This project is supported, in part, by federal award number CPFFN0190 awarded to the State of Michigan by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.  

TDS completes fiber network upgrade in Socorro, New Mexico
TDS Telecommunications’ fiber network build in Socorro, NM, is now complete, bringing all-fiber internet service to the area. TDS’ project connects nearly 2,900 Socorro addresses to the new, world-class infrastructure. Fiber-optic technology is considered the best in class because it delivers the fastest internet speeds with near-zero latency and can handle multiple data-heavy applications running at the same time without slowing down. TDS now offers fiber connections up to 8 Gbps.

WOW!'s network investment in Newnan, Georgia, delivers speed and reliability gains
WOW! has completed the first phase of a major broadband network upgrade in its Newnan, Georgia service area, delivering increased download speeds from 1.2 Gbps to 2 Gbps, and upstream speeds from 50 Mbps to 500 Mbps. Additional upgrades are planned over the next year to boost capacity further and to prepare for the future launch of DOCSIS 4.0. By next summer, WOW! will have invested over $5 million in its regional network, which reaches more than 40,000 homes and businesses. At the same time, WOW! has freed up network capacity by retiring its legacy video service in Newnan and transitioning customers to YouTube TV. The newly available spectrum has been engineered to improve upstream speeds.

Xfinity and Comcast Business services now available in Beaufort and Edisto, South Carolina
Comcast’s Xfinity has connected 1,000 new homes and businesses in Beaufort and Edisto, South Carolina with multi-gigabit Internet. The completed network expansions extend Xfinity’s fiber-powered network across South Carolina’s Lowcountry, reaching Beaufort County and the Charleston County portion of Edisto. Through public-private partnerships supported by federal American Rescue Plan Act funding, Comcast was able to bring its network farther into Beaufort and Edisto – reaching homes and businesses in areas where the cost and complexity of construction can make broadband expansion challenging. The Beaufort County expansion was supported through the Capital Projects Fund, while the Edisto expansion built upon a previously funded State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds project.
