Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE) says that iTV-3, is deploying the access equipment developer’s MXK platform as part of a new fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network to serve the communities of Morton and Pekin in Central Illinois. The new network will pass more than 15,000 homes to support the provision of triple-play services.
"Fiber is critical to our new offering, allowing us to keep up with consumer demand for increased internet speed for streaming of movies or downloading other high bandwidth content," said Levi Dinkla, vice president of iTV-3. "The flexibility and scalability of the MXK platform and its ability to provide GPON connectivity were main reasons Zhone was selected for this deployment. Its ability to integrate with current systems and provide a smooth implementation for the network expansion was also key."
In addition to its MXK central office system, Zhone also will supply its zNID Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) for both residential and business services support.
"This new fiber network allows iTV-3 to expand its offering and provide advanced communications and connectivity to residents in Central Illinois, with the potential to expand its footprint in the future," explained Brian Caskey, chief marketing officer for Zhone.
Zhone says more than 3,000 of its MXK platforms are installed with more than 150 service providers in more than 40 countries.
