Spectranet to deploy GPON FTTH with Nokia in Nigeria

The FTTH rollout will complement Spectranet’s wireless broadband capabilities, which have been available since 2013.

Nigerian ISP Spectranet plans to deploy GPON-based fiber to the home (FTTH) using equipment from Nokia, the technology provider says. The FTTH deployment will serve customers in Lagos and Abuja.

The FTTH rollout will complement Spectranet’s wireless broadband capabilities, which have been available since 2013. The FTTH resources will enable Spectranet to provide such services as 4K HD video streaming and online gaming to residential and enterprise subscribers, as well as support the Nigerian Government's Vision 20: 2020, which calls for the use of technology to spark economic growth within the country.

“In today’s digital economy, our customers increasingly seek high-speed internet access to use applications like streaming ultra HD videos and online gaming,” said Ajay Awasthi, Spectranet’s CEO. “With Nokia’s GPON solution, we will be able to offer customers new ultra-broadband services that create a superior customer experience in the home and office.”

Spectranet will use Nokia 7362 ISAM DF-16GW optical line terminal (OLT) as well as Nokia 7368 ISAM ONTs. “We are committed to enabling Spectranet provide superior broadband services to its customers,” commented Daniel Jaeger, head of the CEWA Market Unit at Nokia. “With our technology, Spectranet’s subscribers will be able to connect to gigabit services and enjoy differentiated services that enhance their overall broadband access experience.”
