Iskratel says that Bolivian service provider Cotap Ltda. will take GPON-based fiber to the home (FTTH) to new heights -- 4,000 m above sea level. The broadband technology provider says Cotap will use its optical line terminals (OLTs) and optical network terminals (ONTs) in a new FTTH network in Potosí, which is considered the world’s highest city.

The city, once one of South America’s largest and richest, now is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and still home to several thousand residents. Cotap plans to deliver FTTH-based broadband services using Iskratel’s SI3000 Lumia GPON OLTs and Innbox G85 an Innbox G74 ONTs. Iskratel will collaborate with local partner Teleserve Group Bolivia on the project.

"In Potosí, a city with such fascinating history, life has never been easy. The deployment of an optical broadband network not only delivers new connectivity to our residents and businesses, but also opens up an array of business opportunities that the city and its people have not had possible before,” stated Juan Francisco Flores, legal representative of Cotap.

"Bringing fiber connectivity to the people of Potosí, the highest city in the world, fills us with profound pride. We were able to achieve this together with the support and help from our partners and friends at Cotap and Teleserv," added Svjetlana Kalaba, director of Business Unit Broadband at Iskratel. "We truly are taking reliable and ultra-fast connectivity to the summit.”
