GAIN-FLATTENING FILTERS

Jan. 1, 2001

Gain flattening filters based on short-period fiber Bragg gratings provide customized gain-flattening over the entire C or L band for systems using high-power EDFAs. The filters provide matching to within ±0.3 dB of the target EDFA profile. Thermal sensitivity is less than 1 pm/°C, maximum excess loss is 0.5 dB, and error function is typically ±5% of maximum loss.
