MARCH 13, 2007 -- ElectroniCast Consultants (search for ElectroniCast) has announced the release of a new market forecast study of consumption value for fusion splicers (search for fusion splicers).

The global consumption value of fiber-optic fusion splice equipment was $259.84 million in 2006 and is forecast to $436.46 million in 2011, with strongly rising quantity growth partially offset by a continuing decline of average prices.

In 2006, North America represented a 48% share of worldwide consumption of fiber-optic fusion splicers. This will decrease slightly to 47%, but increase in value to $206.38 million by 2011, as illustrated in the Figure below.

Europe accounted for 25% of the global fusion splice equipment consumption value in 2006. Europe's share will increase in consumption through 2011; however, it is expected to decline in terms of relative market share to 23% or $98.82 million, say ElectroniCast analysts.

The Asia Pacific region (APAC) will increase in relative market share from 27% ($69.91 million) in 2006 to 30% or $131.26 million in 2011, driven by countries throughout the region.
