CapRock Communications Corp. (Dallas, TX) and Enron Communications Inc. (Portland, OR), a subsidiary of Enron Corp., signed a $100-million deal to jointly build more than 1000 mi of fiber-optic infrastructure throughout the state of Texas. Construction will begin immediately on the network with completion slated for next fall. The network will connect Amarillo, Lubbock, Dallas, Fort Worth, Waco, Bryan, Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio, and Houston. The deal is part of Enron`s plan to build long-haul fiber-optic networks on strategic routes throughout the United States as it creates a data-centric national Internet protocol network backbone known as the Enron Intelligent Network.
