Lumentum’s sustainability efforts were recognized with a second Platinum EcoVadis Medal win

The photonic’s provider was cited for its sustainability performance.

Lumentum has received the EcoVadis Platinum Medal for the second consecutive year, reflecting its ongoing commitment to sustainability.

The company’s award, which was announced on Earth Day 2024, remains in the top one percent of companies assessed by EcoVadis in the past year, increasing its overall score from 78 to 80 points.

As the global standard for business sustainability ratings, the EcoVadis assessment evaluates 21 sustainability criteria across four core categories: environment, Labor and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. The organization has rated over 100,000 companies globally.

In the environmental category, Lumentum increased its score by 10 points from last year. Medals are awarded based on a company's percentile rank compared to the performance of all rated companies.

“Receiving the EcoVadis Platinum Medal for the second consecutive year is a testament to Lumentum's commitment to sustainability,” said Lumentum president and CEO Alan Lowe. “This achievement reflects our efforts to integrate sustainable practices across all of our operations.”

Lumentum has taken a multi-element approach to achieve its sustainability goals.

The company’s critical environmental commitments and recent accomplishments include:

Achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from global operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 2030. In fiscal year 2023, GHG emissions decreased by 25% compared to fiscal year 2022.

Raise the percentage of renewable electricity for global operations year over year. Lumentum doubled the percentage of renewable energy sourced for its international operations from 31% to 61% in fiscal year 2023.

Divert 90% of non-hazardous waste by fiscal year 2027. 70% of non-hazardous waste was diverted from landfills in fiscal year 2023.

EcoVadis previously recognized Lumentum with a Platinum Rating in 2023, a Gold Rating in 2022, and a Silver Rating in 2021. Through its partnership with One Tree Planted, a nonprofit organization focused on global reforestation, EcoVadis will plant a tree on behalf of Lumentum to celebrate the company's achievement.

Misha Rozenberg, senior vice president of Global Operations and chief quality officer at Lumentum, said that the EcoVadis award reflects the  “close collaboration of many teams across Lumentum.”
