Ezee Fiber is acquiring Tachus Fiber Internet from Crosstimbers Capital Group, a fiber ISP headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas, giving it an additional 60,000 residential and business fiber customers.

This latest acquisition, which is part of Ezee’s ongoing fiber expansion drive, will expand its service footprint across the northern communities of Greater Houston.

Tachus operates an underground fiber network in the Houston metro area.

"The combination of Ezee Fiber and Tachus creates a formidable regional competitor with the scale and momentum to expand nationally and help meet the surging demand for fast, reliable connectivity,” said Gautam Bhandari, managing partner and global chief investment officer at Squared Capital.

The expansion objective

Network expansion is a key objective for Ezee Fiber.

Over the past 24 months, Ezee Fiber has conducted three major network expansions across three states: $200 million expansion in Houston, a $250 million expansion in New Mexico, a $400 million expansion in the state of Washington, and its acquisition of Tachus.

By year-end, the combined company expects to deepen its fiber passing penetration to over 600,000 locations across Houston, New Mexico, and Washington State.

In Washington State, Ezee Fiber, through a partnership with the city of Kent, Washington, began construction in public rights-of-way in May to deliver its fiber-based broadband service to residents and businesses. Ezee Fiber is funding the expansion of high-speed internet throughout the Puget Sound region. Like it has done in the other areas like New Mexico, it plans to invest $400 million in expanding its network in the Puget Sound region and hiring 350 people for sales, customer service, technician, and other roles.

While the company did not provide specific targets, Ezee Fiber plans further expansions into additional states across the United States in 2025 and beyond.

Last November, the Houston-based company announced plans to invest $200 million in the continued expansion of its fiber network in Fort Bend County.

Targeted acquisitions

Ezee Fiber is complementing its ongoing network investments with targeted acquisitions.

In December 2024, Ezee Fiber acquired Conterra Networks’ New Mexico fiber assets, laying the groundwork for expanding its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service throughout the state.

While neither company revealed financial details, the acquisition included 128 miles of installed fiber infrastructure in Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, and Los Lunas, New Mexico.

Besides gaining greater fiber density, the Conterra Networks acquisition created economic benefits for the community.

As a result of its fiber expansion plans, the provider has created over 350 employment opportunities for construction personnel, installation technicians, and sales, marketing, and community engagement associates.
