Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s Quantum-Ultra Ribbon Splicer allows fiber technicians to splice up to 16-count ribbon fiber in 11 seconds. Aiding in quicker production times is Sumitomo Electric’s patented NanoTune™ technology. NanoTune™ uses AI to analyze fiber end faces and account for poor cleaves or technician errors during fiber preparation. NanoTune™ accounts for these offsets and allows the splicer to still move forward with conducting a low-loss splice. This, in turn, reduces failures and rework caused by poor cleaves by 20%, which is especially important given the 16 end faces that could be damaged during preparation. The combination of NanoTune™ and features provided by the Quantum-Ultra Ribbon results in the ability to splice a 1728 fiber cable in 7.3 hours as opposed to 57 hours using a single fiber splicer. Ribbon fiber cables are constantly changing in their design and construction.
