Frontier Communications Corp. has launched Frontier Connect – Cloud to provide customers a cloud connection for secure, private, dedicated access to the major third-party cloud service providers. Frontier will collaborate with data center service provider Equinix to enable the service, which will leverage software-defined networking (SDN).

Frontier says the new offering combines SDN with the company’s resilient network to connect users directly, via a private connection, to the Equinix ecosystem of more than 100 cloud service providers subscribed to the Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric (ECX). The ECX fabric offers direct connectivity to more than 1,000 participants, including some of the world’s largest enterprise and cloud service providers.

“The service is easy to deploy and flexible, regardless of business size or geographical location,” says Daniel Peiretti, senior vice president of commercial product and marketing at Frontier. “Combined with our ethernet services, Frontier Connect – Cloud provides an on-ramp to better-performing cloud applications. In collaboration with Equinix, Frontier brings a new standard of network performance and next-generation connectivity services to companies looking to expand their reach throughout the United States.”

Frontier Connect – Cloud is designed to improve cloud application performance and reduce latency by enabling more consistent throughput to cloud services. This enables accelerated software development and promotes application innovation and data center transformation, supporting cloud and multi-cloud strategies. It also adds visibility and control to any network while enhancing scalability, says Frontier.
