Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd., a global provider of advanced optical systems, is expanding its optical device portfolio with the introduction of a 25G EML TOSA and 25G PIN ROSA for 100G Base-LR4 CFP modules.

These devices are IEEE 802.3ba-compliant for 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100 GbE). The 100 GbE performance is based on transmitting and receiving four different wavelengths, each at 25 Gb/s. The new EML TOSA integrates an externally modulated DFB laser, optical isolator, photodiode for monitoring, thermistor, and thermoelectric cooler, and is available in IEEE-compliant wavelengths. The TOSA includes a built-in modulator driver and offers output levels up to 4 dBm.

The ROSA includes a high-speed PIN photodiode and transimpedance amplifier, and realizes the wide dynamic range of -13 to +4 dBm.

The first generation of 100 GbE product is shipping today. Sumitomo Electric is exhibiting at OFC/NFOEC in Booth 1624.
