Huawei, a provider of next-generation telecommunications network tools for operators around the world, introduced the OSN8800 T Series, including the T16/T32/T64 next-generation metro and core optical transport network (OTN) system to North American service providers at OFC/NFOEC 2011 in Los Angeles.
This new transport system accommodates bandwidth-heavy services, such as data, video, and storage, and reduces operator costs with simplified maintenance, energy-efficiency, and space-saving features. This new platform will compliment its current optical OSN Series offerings, and will be available to North American service providers starting in April 2011.
“North American operators are focusing on achieving fast service velocity, while hyper-scaling their networks in a live traffic environment,” says Reg Wilcox, vice president of network marketing and product management for Huawei USA. “Our OSN8800 T Series addresses these challenges with its advanced features and enables operators to achieve greater flexibility.”
The OSN8800 T Series achieves 40G/100G transport and offers full-service, cross-connect capabilities that support ODUk (Optical Data Unit), wavelength, and packet switching, offering more flexibility and efficiency in wavelength utilization. By employing OTN switching capacity from 640G up to 6.4T, the OSN8800 T Series provides advanced maintenance functionality and fast service provisioning similar to SONET. Additionally, the OSN8800 T Series is designed with leading ASIC technology achieving low power consumption.
