JANUARY 25, 2011 -- 360networks--a facilities-based wholesale provider of Private Line Transport, Ethernet, IP, VoIP, and Local Access services, announced the availability of its Layer 2 Ethernet (L2E) service.
L2E is a Carrier Ethernet service providing scalable Layer 2 connectivity between major carrier hotels, data centers, Internet Exchanges, and Ethernet Exchanges throughout the region. The service is designed to enable customers to decrease network complexity and improve and optimize capacity, while reducing costs.
"IP traffic is expected to quadruple in four years," says Rick Coma, 360networks' senior vice president. "We designed the L2E service to support this growth by enabling customers to quickly and cost effectively scale bandwidth and access major data distribution points and other carrier neutral meet me points. L2E eliminates the complexity of building and managing a private network by providing a fully managed diverse protected transport solution."
360networks developed L2E for Internet Service providers (ISPs), cloud infrastructure and storage providers, co-location providers, content providers, content distribution networks, VoIP service providers, wireless carriers, CLECs, cable MSOs, and others needing access to a purpose-built Layer 2 network.
This Layer 2 network is mesh-protected for ubiquitous connectivity across 360networks' 18,000 route mile footprint. As a port-based service, customers pay a monthly recurring charge per port and can connect multiple locations in a point-to-point or point-to-multipoint configuration.
"We are addressing the industry's continued demand for IP services and simplified connectivity by implementing this network," says Brady Adams, 360networks' chief technology officer.
