OCTOBER 20, 2009 – Transmode has launched its next-generation 10G Multi-Service Muxponder, targeted for mobile backhaul and other next-generation network (NGN) migration applications.
The new 10G Multi-Service Muxponder (MS-MXP/10G) is targeted at mobile backhaul applications and NGN migration projects within fixed networks where both legacy TDM traffic is required in parallel with Ethernet traffic. The MS-MXP/10G is designed to enable operators to economically and flexibly transport multiple services on the same 10G wavelength. All services are transported totally transparently, including network synchronization, which simplifies the network structure and OAM procedures, according to Transmode.
The MS-MXP/10G extends Transmode's Intelligent WDM (iWDM) Multi-Service technology to 10 Gbps of capacity and is part of Transmode's TM-Series. The Multi-Service technology is used in Transmode's recently announced Multi-Service Mobile Backhaul Solution for E1/T1 and Ethernet traffic and the existing 4G Multi-Service Muxponder for SDH/SONET, Ethernet and Fibre Channel traffic.
For high capacity mobile backhaul applications in particular, the MS-MXP/10G's support for the Synchronous Ethernet standards and the transparent transport of the timing-over-Packet standards grants the operator complete flexibility as it migrates to Ethernet transport for HSPA data offload, LTE, and 4G backhaul, Transmode asserts.
Available in December 2009 as part of the TM-Series Release 14 and already committed to customer trials, the MS-MXP/10G supports a mix of SDH/SONET, Gigabit Ethernet, and Fibre Channel traffic plus the output of lower-speed 2.5- and 4-Gbps Transmode Muxponders. The plug-in unit has 10 SFP-based client ports and duplicated 10G XFP-based line ports for optional line protection. The line signal is coded with forward error correction (FEC) to provide transmission performance in metro, regional, and long-haul applications.
The MS-MXP/10G is also available in a version with a fixed/tunable interface, a higher-grade enhanced FEC line coding, and a high-performance receiver for longer reach (greater than 1000 km) applications.
Release 14 also includes new DWDM tunable XFPs enabling the XFP-based MS-MXP/10G and all other XFP-based Transmode 10G plug in units to support tunable functionality across 80 DWDM wavelengths.
While the plug-in units are fundamentally Layer 1 Muxponders, they also support Layer 2 awareness features on Ethernet client ports, such as Ethernet utilization reporting and the injection/extraction of management VLANs to enable management of remote VLAN managed devices, such as Transmode's CPE Ethernet Demarcation or Ethernet Muxponders (EMXP) units, the company concludes.
In addition to the two variants of the MS-MXP/10G and support for tunable XFPs in all 10G plug-in units, Release 14 includes other TM-Series updates including a new OTU-2 OTN Transponder and the recently announced Multi-Service Mobile Backhaul Solution.
