February 20, 2004 Berlin, Germany -- Stratalight Communications has selected u²t Photonics AG to be the primary supplier of 43-Gbit/sec photodetectors for their OTS-4000 transport subsystem products. Stratalight Communications is an OEM provider of optical transport subsystems.

First shipments of the photodetectors to Stratalight Communications were made in January 2004. The contract extends through mid 2005.

According to Michael Kneier, vice president of sales and marketing for u²t Photonics, "Stratalight Communications has rigorous requirements for state-of-the-art optical components and we at u²t Photonics are pleased to meet their needs with our 43-Gbit/sec photodetectors."

Terry Smith, CEO and Cofounder of Stratalight Communications said, "Stratalight's products are being adopted because they allow the retrofit of 40-Gbit SONET/SDH in 10-Gbit WDM channels, improving transport economics and extending the capacity of lit fiber. We are pleased to have u²t Photonics as a supplier for these critical elements of our system."

u²t Photonics' CEO Andreas Umbach said, "I am convinced that we will see more 40-Gbit/sec systems in the near future, and our technology and innovations will be an important part of putting more networking power in the hands of end users."
