POST Luxembourg deploys 400ZR-based fiber backbone network with Smartoptics

March 23, 2021
Smartoptics asserts the “vast majority” of the resultant optical layer will be based on the company’s DCP-M open line system and 400ZR pluggable optics.

Smartoptics says it will supply its DCP-M open line system to POST Luxembourg for the service provider’s new fiber backbone network. The fiber network will leverage the open line systems and 400ZR pluggable optical transceivers to serve the needs of residential and business users.

Founded in 1842, POST Luxembourg serves the Grand Duchy with high-speed connections as well as voice and data management. With more than 70% of Luxembourg households connected with fiber, bandwidth demands are expected to continue to increase quickly. The service provider therefore has elected to upgrade its network capabilities, from switches and routers to optical transport. Smartoptics asserts the “vast majority” of the resultant optical layer will be based on the company’s DCP-M open line system and 400ZR pluggable optics. Deployment is expected to wrap up during the current quarter, with the new network going live in the second half of this year.

“POST Luxembourg’s overall objective is to offer convenient and efficient products and services based on cutting-edge technologies, meeting tomorrow’s connectivity needs. When investing in a new fixed core network, it was clear from start that we wanted to shape a state-of-the-art network,” said Gaston Bohnenberger, director of POST Technologies. “Our previous experience of working with Smartoptics along with the future-proof solution they offer made us confident that this was the right choice. Smartoptics’ offering is highly competitive, but the company’s capability and commitment to deliver the equipment within the expected timeframe was an important factor as well.”

“POST Luxembourg’s new network, will definitely be one of the first in the world using 400ZR optics. Smartoptics is proud to have been chosen as POST Luxembourg’s partner on this groundbreaking project. This further solidifies our position as a leading provider of future-proof open line system solutions for smart connectivity,” added Magnus Grenfeldt, CEO Smartoptics.
