Pineland Telephone Cooperative taps Ribbon for upgraded fiber-optic transport

April 26, 2021
The Ribbon IP Optical Apollo and Neptune systems will enable a capacity overlay to Pineland's existing infrastructure, while a set of professional services will complement the new systems and accelerate and enhance the roll out.

Pineland Telephone Cooperative has selected Ribbon Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: RBBN) to supply elements of the technology developer’s Apollo and Neptune for a fiber-optic transport network upgrade. The new optical transport systems will complement cloud and edge platforms that Ribbon says it has already supplied.

Now in its 69th year of business, the co-op provides telecommunications services to residential and business customers in South Georgia via a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network that supports gigabit broadband. The Ribbon IP Optical Apollo and Neptune systems will enable a capacity overlay to Pineland's existing infrastructure, while a set of professional services will complement the new systems and accelerate and enhance the roll out.

"We were in need of a solution that would allow us to seamlessly expand our core network capacity to accommodate our growing customer base," explained Dustin Durden, general manager of Pineland. "Ribbon is a trusted partner with whom we have a very long history. Their expanded portfolio of IP Optical and transport solutions are a great technology fit for our rapidly growing network. They will allow us to future-proof our network and enhance our ability to deliver our customers uninterrupted gigabit-enabled internet speeds and other state-of-the-art communications capabilities."

"Pineland already has key solutions from our Cloud & Edge portfolio in their network and with addition of our IP Optical network solutions to overlay their existing infrastructure, it allows them to immediately enhance their communications offerings," added Steven Bruny, executive vice president, sales, Americas Region for Ribbon. "Our IP Optical network solutions are designed to cost-effectively help communications service providers and enterprises of all sizes modernize their communications networks."
