Romania’s GTS Telecom upgrades fiber network to 100G via Ciena
Romania’s GTS Telecoms, a member of Deutsche Telekom AG, will upgrade its national fiber network from 10G to 100G wavelength capabilities using equipment from Ciena (NYSE: CIEN), according to the communications technology provider. The upgrade will clear a path for stepping up to 200G, 400G, and 800G in the future.
The upgraded network will leverage Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platforms and flexible grid ROADMs. GTS also will take advantage of WaveLogic Encryption to enable secure services to customers in the public sector. The operator also will rely on Ciena Services for remote service migration and commissioning.
GTS Telecom supplies services such as cloud and colocation services from its data centers in Bucharest and Cluj, as well as internet access, anti-DDoS services, data transport, and voice services. The company manages an Ethernet and MPLS network based on fiber.
“It was vital to us that our customers could benefit from high-performance connectivity across the country, and Ciena made it possible for us to make good on this aim,” said Răzvan Stoica, managing director at GTS Telecom. “The network provides improved scalability, security, capacity, and low latency to support the growing high-bandwidth requirements of our customers. It’s also a real benefit to be able to increase capacity quickly going forward to meet future demands.”
“GTS Telecom is seeing exponential growth in the demand for capacity across Romania. We designed a network that allows GTS to meet customers’ immediate and future needs, while also enhancing performance and security to support an increasing number of customers and use cases,” added Virginie Hollebecque, vice president and leader of EMEA at Ciena.
