Chartres’ CM’IN upgrades fiber network to 100G via Ekinops optical transport systems

Chartres Métropole Innovations Numériques supplies digital services and broadband connectivity for businesses and residents in Chartes, which is 90-mi southwest of Paris.

Ekinops (Euronext Paris - FR0011466069 – EKI) says it has supplied elements of its optical transport system portfolio to Chartres Métropole Innovations Numériques (CM’IN). The French telecommunications service provider, which supports customers in the city of Chartres, has used the optical network platforms to boost a pair of fiber network links from 10 Gbps to 100 Gbps.

CM’IN supplies digital services and broadband connectivity for businesses and residents in Chartes, which is 90-mi southwest of Paris. The company is using the Ekinops equipment to bring 100-Gbps capabilities to its single fiber network that connects the municipality to two major Parisian data centers. The additional capacity will improve the service provider’s voice, hosting, and TV capture and broadcast capabilities.

“Both the technology and the service received from Ekinops have been remarkable,” comments Alain Guillotin, general manager at CM’IN. “The specialist team understood our requirements and proposed an elegant solution that was easy and fast to implement. Ekinops has greatly helped us in our mission to ensure the metropolitan territory of Chartres remains a highly connected and innovative district for digital services. We saw an immediate benefit in winning a new major project.”

Ekinops says it delivered the necessary Flexrate PM_200FRS02-SF transponder/muxponders and PM_100G-AGG aggregation modules in four weeks. The installation has had minimal impact on CM’IN’s installed base and customer operations, the systems house asserts.

“Every year the pressure on telecom service providers to increase bandwidth grows, in line with the appetites of residential and enterprise customers for data hungry cloud services,” said Thierry Varona, sales director France at Ekinops. “Our optical transport solutions enable service providers to radically transform their network speeds, without suffering the cost, time, and environmental disruption of laying new fiber. We’re delighted to have partnered with CM’IN and made such a difference to the future of its business and to the residents of Chartres.”
