Fujitsu offers 1.2-Tbps 1FINITY Ultra Optical System

Feb. 27, 2023

Fujitsu is using this week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, to introduce the 1FINITY Ultra Optical System. The optical transport system will offer single-wavelength 1.2-Tbps transmission with a ramp toward 1.6 Tbps. Fujitsu says it expects to ship the platform to communications service providers and cloud infrastructure providers worldwide in the first half of this year.

The optical transport system, which comprises the T900 Series Transponder and L900 Series Optical Line System, leverages the 5-nm CMOS ExaSPEED GAIA coherent DSP the company co-developed with NTT, paired with an ultra-high-speed coherent driver modulator to enable 135-Gbaud operation. The T900 Series Transponder uses Fujitsu’s closed-loop liquid cooling technology, which the company asserts offers twice the cooling capacity of conventional alternatives. The 1FINITY Ultra Optical System will support the company’s continuous C+L ROADM architecture, bolstered by forward Raman amplification. These features enable the 1FINITY Ultra to offer reduced carbon emissions compared to similar platforms while enabling 40% greater reach.

In addition, the L900 Series Optical Line System features the company’s “smart fiber cable system” that reduces cabling complexity by more than 80% and troubleshooting time during installation and commissioning “from multiple hours to seconds,” Fujitsu asserts. An integrated dual-wave optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) is optional, as Fujitsu’s Pseudowave technology that is designed to streamline network management and improve system efficiency.

Fujitsu will have the 1FINITY Ultra Optical System on display at OFC in San Diego from March 7-9, 2023.
