XKL LLC has added FlexArc, a distributed DWDM platform, to its DarkStar optical transport portfolio. FlexArc enables network operators to distribute bandwidth capacity and scale as needed, the company says.

FlexArc leverages the DarkStar digital ROADM switching and remote client and wave mapping capabilities to enable the flexibility to support diverse applications across multiple markets and enable capacity scaling as needed. Each location can accommodate 1-Gbps to 100-Gbps connectivity, XKL says, to support pay-as-you-grow capabilities without decommissioning older technologies, forced upgrades, or additional licensing fees.

"DWDM is the backbone technology for all next-generation optical networking architecture," says Chad Lamb, director of engineering for XKL. "When DWDM is distributed, as in the case with FlexArc, data can be intelligently allocated for metro, regional, and long-haul transmission, all while using less equipment, rack-space, and energy consumption."
