Fiber-optic network services provider VTLWaveNet, part of the Viatel Group (which itself recently became part of DigiWeb) has finished the first phase of a network upgrade that will see the addition of 100-Gbps technology from Huawei. This first phase sees the addition of 100-Gbps wavelength capabilities between London and Paris.
Huawei says that the use of electronic dispersion compensation technology will lower latency on the heavily trafficked London to Paris route. Service lead times also will be reduced, the company asserts.
In addition to the 100-Gbps capabilities, the Huawei platforms also will provide Optical Transport Network (OTN) switching capabilities.
"The upgrade of this part of our network allows us to serve new and existing customers on what has become a key route and with VTLWaveNet's own subsea cable into France, we offer a diverse route to many other operators which avoids the Channel Tunnel," said Lucy Woods, CEO at Viatel.
Jack Wang, president of Huawei's transport product line, added, "We are delighted to partner with VTLWaveNet to build this highly advanced WDM network. Huawei's soft decision technology has a distinct advantage in the international long distance backbone interconnection, providing a more reliable and better quality service for VTLWaveNet customers."
