Essex 6.25 GHz Hyperfine WDM prototype trials to begin

Aug. 7, 2001
Aug. 7, 2001--Companies in the optical networking marketplace have agreed to participate in the first round of field trials of the new 6.25 GHz Hyperfine WDM pre-production prototypes.

Essex Corporation (OTC:ESEX.OB), the developer of low-cost and high-resolution Hyperfine WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) technology for advanced optical network applications, announced that companies in the optical networking marketplace have agreed to participate in the first round of field trials of the new 6.25 GHz Hyperfine WDM pre-production prototypes.

"We strategically selected a DWDM systems provider, an optical components manufacturer, a test and measurement company, and a metro/long-haul carrier to each receive a pre-production prototype for field testing soon after the Opticon 2001 conference and exhibition," said Michael Piacenza, Vice President of Business Development.

Essex is limiting the number of field trial sites to four to ensure a high level of support for each partner evaluation. Each field test is focused on a different major application for Hyperfine. The company will announce when field tests begin with each company.

Essex will be exhibiting in Booth 511 at Opticon 2001, San Jose, Ca., on August 13-14.
