Colt Technology Services says it has conducted a successful trial of 600G wavelength provision over a long-haul live fiber network in Japan. Colt partnered with Ciena (NYSE:CIEN; see "Colt to deploy Ciena's 6500 packet-optical transport system in Asia Pacific region") on the trial, which was conducted between a pair of data centers. Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ:VIAV) provided test equipment to verify the results.
The network services provider had previously conducted a trial of 400G transmission at the end of last year. Topping that effort, the recent 600G trial over elements of Colt’s IQ Network leveraged flex-grid enabled transmissions via Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Extreme coherent engine. VIAVI, meanwhile, supplied its ONA-1000A and MTS-6000A OSA-610 platforms to test combinations of 400G and 100G Ethernet client end-to-end bit-error-free traffic (in the case of the ONA-1000Z) and enable line-side optical spectrum analysis (via the MTS-6000A OSA-610).
“The fact that Colt has succeeded with this 600G wavelength trial shows we are now ready to provide the highest bandwidth solutions available in market,” commented Masato Hoshino, Colt Technology Services president and head of Asia. “Colt and Ciena have a strategic relationship based on mutual trust and joint innovation, and we couldn’t be more excited to continue on our journey together to keep raising the standard of the industry. We know the requirement for ultra-high-bandwidth services is not going to slow down, and with Ciena’s technology, we can keep transforming the way our customers do business.”
Colt says it is now ready to offer commercial trials for 400G and is planning to roll out 400G optical services in the second half of this year.
