Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) says it has supplied its ICE6 coherent optical engine technology to GlobalConnect Carrier. The Nordic service provider used the technology to establish 800-Gbps transmission on its international long-haul network. The 800G traffic ran across GlobalConnect’s existing third-party line system.
The ICE6 coherent engine was installed within Infinera’s GX Series Compact Modular Platform, resulting in 800G error-free transmission over 770 km on a routed between Stockholm and Malmö. Infinera says that GlobalConnect Carrier has deployed the ICE6 on its Swedish national backbone network via Infinera’s XTM Series platform.
GlobalConnect Carrier operates more than 100,000 km of fiber in Northern Europe that connects more than 3300 access nodes. “GlobalConnect continues its rapid acceleration of digitizing Northern Europe and selecting technology vendors with innovative advancements to help us meet the needs of our customers,” said Martin Højriis Kristensen, market director at GlobalConnect Carrier. “This achievement with Infinera marks a key milestone for us as we continue to upgrade our network. With technologies like ICE6, Infinera will continue to play a key role in our network evolution.”
