Source of MAYA-1 submarine fiber cable fault still undetermined

LIME Cayman Islands was still searching for the cause of a shunt failure that rendered the islands’ leg of the MAYA-1 submarine fiber-optic cable system inoperative this past Sunday, according to a report today from cayCompass.com. There was no word on whether a full-system shutdown LIME Cayman Islands had said would take place July 30 at midnight had enabled powering of the system from Miami – or had taken place at all.

A local dive master inspected the fiber cable near the landing station at Half Moon Bay yesterday, according to the cayCompass story. Meanwhile, most affected customers had seen their services restored as LIME and local competitive carriers switched their traffic to a second cable in the region, likely the Cayman Jamaica Fibre system.
