“In the last few months we have further optimized the Telekom Austria Group backbone enabling it to provide service capacities of up to 100 Gbps. As a result, native 100G bandwidth services are immediately available with increased speed and scalability,” said Stefan Amon, head of the Wholesale Department at the Telekom Austria Group. “By both optimizing network design and upgrading infrastructure the Group is now able to even achieve increased profitability.”

Telekom Austria plans further 100G rollouts throughout the year. For example, it expects to have 100G capabilities between Frankfurt and Sofia operational by the end of the second quarter. All of its major points of presence (PoPs) – including Vienna, Sofia, Belgrade, Zagreb, Bucharest, Budapest, Ivancice, Salzburg, and Frankfurt – should be connected via 100G by the end of the year, the carrier expects.
