RCN, Grande and Wave Business Solutions, the business services arms of a trio of cable MSOs combined into a single operating entity by TPG Capital (see “TPG Capital to acquire RCN Telecom, Grande Communications” and “RCN/Grande closes Wave Broadband transaction”), has signed a deal with Ciena (NYSE:CIEN) to expand their relationship with the communications technology vendor. The deal will see Ciena deliver coherent optical and packet transport technologies to improve the operation of the combination’s fiber-optic network infrastructure.
RCN, Grande and Wave Business Solutions previously have deployed Ciena’s 6500 packet optical transport platform technology. The three entities now will deploy additional Ciena platforms to further increase network capacity in support of the delivery of video, internet, and Ethernet products for business customers. For example, RCN, Grande, and Wave recently used Ciena’s 39xx and 51xx packet portfolio to provide its commercial and wholesale customers a uniform experience with 1GbE, 10GbE, and 100GbE services.
“RCN, Grande and Wave Business Solutions are committed to ensuring our customers have the tools necessary to stay competitive in today’s business landscape,” said Patrick Knorr, COO of RCN, Grande and Wave Business Solutions. “Ciena is a recognizable brand and market leader in optical and packet technology, and this collaboration enhances our capabilities to solve our customer’s evolving business challenges.”
“Working with RCN, Grande and Wave’s Business Solutions, we are providing coherent optical and packet network-based technology that will deliver reliable connectivity and contribute to its broadband, voice and cloud solutions’ success and growth,” added Jason Phipps, senior vice president of global sales and marketing at Ciena.
