Ciena: 8140

Feb. 21, 2024
Ciena’s 8140 Coherent Metro Router offers an edge-to-metro solution with support for speeds ranging from 10G to 400G.

With high-faceplate-density 100GbE interfaces and the coherent option of WaveLogicTM 5 Nano (WL5n), Ciena’s 8140 Coherent Metro Router offers an edge-to-metro solution with support for speeds ranging from 10G to 400G. With a focus on power efficiency, high throughput, and optimized 100G density, this router ensures security in its scalable and adaptable design, making it suitable for Multiple System Operators (MSO), Mobile Network Operators (MNO), enterprises, or wholesale operators. Additionally, the 8140 enables 100GbE by leveraging 100 Gbps per wavelength PAM4 optical technology and SFP-DD interfaces. It supports 100G by utilizing two electrical lanes with 50G PAM4 modulation, combined with SFP-DD, simplifying a 100G data stream optically with a single laser source.

Judge’s Comment: “Ciena purpose-built the 8140 for 10/25/100 Ethernet services, and the router excels at providing comprehensive edge-to-metro service at these rates.”
