Mar. 12, 2001--Spirent Communications, a provider of performance analysis solutions, announced that its Adtech AX/4000 platform has been selected by Alcatel to support ongoing test and measurement of the Alcatel 7770 Routing Core Platform (RCP), a multi-terabit IP core router.

Spirent Communications, a provider of performance analysis solutions, announced that its Adtech AX/4000 platform has been selected by Alcatel to support ongoing test and measurement of the Alcatel 7770 Routing Core Platform (RCP), a multi-terabit IP core router.

Alcatel is using Spirent's Adtech OC-3, OC-12, OC-48, and OC-192 Packet over SONET (POS) modules to test the 7770 RCP. Alcatel was also a customer of Spirent's channelized OC-192 Bit Error Rate Testing (BERT) module, which will test Layer 1 transmission performance characteristics of its equipment. Spirent's channelized OC-192 BERT module allows simultaneous, independent BERT streams to be generated, analyzed and reported in real time.

The 7770 RCP has been engineered to meet carrier-class requirements and enable the next generation IP network. By delivering advanced networking solutions to IP-centric service providers, the 7770 RCP enables differentiated IP services, including streaming multimedia, e-commerce, business-to-business applications, IP-VPN, and voice over IP across the core with a performance guarantee. Service providers can use these solutions to optimize the IP network, thereby lowering operational and investment costs.

Alcatel is also leveraging Spirent's multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) testing capabilities on its Adtech AX/4000 platform, which supports MPLS running with Resource Reservation Protocol with Traffic Engineering (RSVP-TE) and separately with Constraint-based Routed Label Distribution protocol (LDP/CR-LDP). The test allows users to generate traffic with MPLS labels for Packet over SONET (POS) and IP over Ethernet networks.

"Ultimately, high-quality performance of MPLS signaling protocols will further enable service providers to deliver enhanced services and increase the revenue on their IP networks," said Wim Henderickx, head of the 7770 System Test department at Alcatel Belgium.

The Alcatel 7770 RCP Release 1 features 1-port OC-192, 2-port OC-48, 8-port OC-12, 16-port OC-3 and 8-port Gigabit Ethernet ports.
