And we’re back. For the first time since early 2015, Lightwave is offering you a magazine. Yes, it’s in digital form, but you can blame COVID-19 for that; had OFC 2021 not moved to a purely virtual format, neither would have the magazine.
So, why have we resurrected Lightwave magazine? Well, according to a survey we conducted of our newsletter subscriber bases, the majority of our respondents believed a magazine would be useful, particularly around the major trade shows, OFC and ECOC. (So, yes, we’ll do this again in September.) The optical communications community is always active, and the two big shows give us all a moment to stop for a few days and catch up on what’s been going on for the past six months or so outside of our individual work bubbles. And a magazine that does what magazines do best – present articles long enough to provide some depth and insight into current and future trends – seems to be something the community wants at these junctures.
And so here we are, hoping to meet that need. While only one of the articles in this issue is about OFC, the topics covered herein should echo what you’ll hear discussed in the conference sessions – and, perhaps, in the hallways of your offices as you start to head back there.
Needless to say, we at Lightwave are hopeful that the answer to the question posed in the title above is “yes.” Do let us know once you’ve finished reading.
