InSiGa Semiconductor Technologies demonstrated its ISG-D5619 53-GBaud DML driver and 50-Gbps DML based uncooled i-temp active TOSA during CIOE 2021 in Shenzhen, China September 16-18. The company, based in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, focuses on 25G to 800G optical communications drivers, CDRs, TIAs, and optical subassemblies.
The ISG-D5619 demo saw the laser driver paired with a 53-GBaud DML from Lumentum. The combination is intended to bring the benefits of DMLs to 100G DR1 and 400G DR4 modules, where EMLs have predominated in applications, such as these, where single-lambda 100G is a building block. The demonstration showed performance that meets the Tx specifications for DR1/DR4 and FR4 modules, says the company. InSiGa envisions such a DML-based design approach applied in 100G/wavelength applications from 100G to 800G. The use of DMLs would prove particularly valuable in 800G PSM8/DR8 modules, which need low power and low cost, the company says. The ISG-D5619 driver is currently sampling.
Meanwhile, the 50G i-temp TOSA targets 5G fronthaul applications and their stringent performance and power dissipation requirements. The uncooled TOSA has a typical power dissipation of 200 mW using commercially available lasers. InSiGa asserts the TOSA’s power dissipation is less than half of other commercial alternatives used in C-temp applications. The TO-60 form-factor TOSA can operate from -40C to 85C while meeting the OMA and TDECQ requirements for 50G transceivers, particularly SFP56 form-factor modules that will be used in 5G fronthaul.
