HyperLight, as startup focused on developing photonic integrated circuits (PICs) leveraging thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) technology, say it is now shipping TFLN-based 110-GHz electro-optic modulators. The modulator series offers options for the C-Band, L-Band, ad O-Band that come packaged with standard fiber and microwave connectors.
The company says the use of TFLN enables the new modulators to sidestep the prohibitively high drive voltages that traditional bulk lithium niobate technology has required to operate in the 110-GHz range. The modulators also offer ultra-high bandwidth modulation (>125 GHz usable bandwidth), what HyperLight asserts is record low half-wave voltage, a compact footprint, high extinction ratio, stable DC biasing, high optical and RF power handling, standard W (1.0 mm) RF connector, and PM fibers with FC/APC connectors.
HyperLight envisions the new modulators finding use in next-generation test and measurement instruments, optical data communication, 6G networks, and radio-over-fiber links.
