II-VI Inc. (NASDAQ:IIVI) says shipments of its LAN-WDM optics for 100GBASE-LR4 and ER4 data center optical transceivers have begun to ramp. The company says it has seen increased demand for its four-channel optics portfolio as 100 Gigabit Ethernet optical modules find greater use in data center spine-leaf network topologies.

The optics support optical transceivers designed to the IEEE 802.3ba standard, which includes 100GBASE-LR4/ER4 modules that leverage four 25-Gbps optical channels on an 800-GHz frequency spacing to transmit and receive 100 Gbps. The devices leverage the company's high-precision thin-films WDM to offer high-performance and low-loss, II-VI asserts.

"The role of micro-optics in optical networks continues to expand, this time in the rapidly growing and transforming data center," said Wade Tang, general manager, Advanced Components Division. "II-VI has a long history of innovation and leadership in thin film filter technology and its packaging into compact micro-optics assemblies.

"We have shipped over 200 million filters in the last three years," Tang continued. "We are now extending that leadership to the high-bit-rate intra-datacenter connectivity."
