Honeywell intros 4-Gbit/sec VCSEL and detector

5 December 2003 Richardson, TX Lightwave -- The VCSEL Optical Products Division of Honeywell has released a new family of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) and detectors targeted at 850-nm optical communication systems operating at speeds from 100 Mbits/sec to 4.25 Gbits/sec over multimode fiber.

The HFE4192-581 VCSEL and HFD3180-20x Detector are available in fiber-sleeved components for small-form-factor LC interfaces. The HFD3180-20x detectors provide RSSI functionality in either four- or five-pin configurations.

"The addition of 4-gigabit components to Honeywell's product will serve all of the Fibre Channel speeds as well as emerging double-speed Ethernet opportunities," said Paul Chapman, VP and general manager, Honeywell VCSEL Optical Product SBE.

Both the HFE4192-581 and the HFD3180-20x are manufactured in Honeywell's Richardson, TX, facility on a fully automated assembly line. Automated assembly of the entire product includes both TO components and subsequent fiber connectorization.

Honeywell VCSEL Optical Products is part of the Control Products business within Honeywell's Automation and Control enterprise and offers component solutions up to and beyond 10 Gbits/sec.
