31 October 2003 Tampere, Finland Lightwave -- Modulight, Inc. has launched the first in a series of uncooled DFB laser products designed for SONET OC-3 to OC-48, SDH STM-1 to STM-16, Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel applications that require up to 2.5-Gbit/sec transmission speeds. The company says the product has extremely stable performance over temperature range of 0 to 85 degrees Centigrade and features a typical side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) of 43 dB.
The product also has a low operating voltage of 1.15 V and maximum rated power of 7 mW.
"We are excited to launch this product since this DFB laser will prepare ground for a series of products that we will be introducing during the next two quarters. Furthermore, I wish to note that we have invested a lot of time and money for development of these products. We started selling engineering prototypes to customers early this year. Since then we have refined the product according to customers needs. I feel that this product will offer our customers a real performance advantage over other suppliers. We are excited to follow the progress with the volume production that is starting now," says Modulight Vice President Seppo Orsila.
Modulight offers the product both as bare die and in a TO-56 package. The TO-56 is priced at $58. The company also offers to new customers an evaluation kit containing a sufficient number of lasers for vendor evaluation. The sample kit is priced at $5500 each. In addition to the lasers, users of the kit also receive itemized product verification data support as well as technical support from the factory.
