Fusion splicers

Ortronics Fusion Splicer (OFS) and Ortronics Fusion Splicer with Video Screen (ofs-vs) for singlemode and multimode fiber are optimized for fddi and LAN installations. The OFS features a color-coded, 100¥ microscope and full three-axis alignment, using precision slides driven by stepper motors with submicron accuracy. The ofs-vs has a 160¥ magnification video camera unit that displays the fibers in each of two right-angled axes on a 2.75-inch (70-mm) diagonal liquid crystal display. The five user-reprogrammable defaults include settings for 50/125-, 62.5/125- and 100/140-micron fiber sizes. There are also four nonvolatile user-definable programs, one electrode cleaning program, and a specialized program for 62.5/125-micron fibers that are prone to bubbling. All fusion programs include automatic tensile testing to verify splice strengths.
