Fabrice Moizan, VP of European sales, Cypress Semiconductor Corp
Cypress Semiconductor Corp has promoted Fabrice Moizan to vice president of European sales, based in London.
"Fabrice has been with Cypress for over three years," said Mike Villott, vice president of worldwide sales. Moizan has over 13 years' experience in the industry, and has worked for and with distribution and sales representative firms. Prior to joining Cypress he held strategic account sales and marketing management positions with Altera's European organisation. Most recently, he relocated temporarily to Cypress's San Jose HQ to direct the launch of the Cypress ConnectionCenter.

Berlin-based ultra-fast opto components supplier u2t photonics AG has added three new executives to its management team:
·Professor Dr Klaus Petermann, member of Supervisory Board, specifying the requirements for optical components for high-speed communication systems. Petermann is the executive director of the Institute of High Frequency and Semiconductor System Technologies at Technical University of Berlin. In 1993 he received the "Leibniz-Preis", the highest German Science award.·Dr Dirk Schumann, wafer technology manager reporting to CTO and co-founder Dirk Trommer, responsible for wafer technology issues, focused on establishment of highly reliable InP wafer manufacturing. Schumann joins after several years with Infineon Technologies, most recently as department manager for development of future DRAM manufacturing processes. Schumann's expertise in running a wafer fab completes front-end InP production.
Philippe Germond, CEO, Alcatel
Jean-Pierre Halbron, president, board member and former CFO of Alcatel, is to retire at the end of December. He will continue to serve on Alcatel's board.
Philippe Germond will join Alcatel as president and chief operating officer from 1 January 2003 and will be proposed to join the Board of Alcatel as a director.

Opto module maker CENiX Inc has appointed Michael Hinkler as vice president of North American and European Sales.
Hinkler brings more than 20 years of telecoms experience and more than 10 years of sales experience. He joins from Avanex, where he was senior sales director for North America.

Avalon Photonics Ltd — a VCSEL array manufacturing spin-off from Swiss research organisation CSEM — has appointed Dr Yu Gao as VP of sales & marketing, responsible for strategic and operational marketing plus sales activities in Europe and Asia. Yu replaces John Humphries, who will sell to niche markets.
Yu has an MS in Spread Spectrum Techniques and a PhD in Fiber-Optic Communication from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. He was employed by ABB Switzerland (R&D), then Huber+Suhner AG (Switzerland) for eight years in functions including product manager, head of systems engineering, manager sales & marketing, and business unit manager.
