CyOptics debuts FP and DFB 10-Gbit/sec. TOSAs

Sept. 17, 2007
SEPTEMBER 17, 2007 — CyOptics Inc. (Lehigh Valley, PA) completed its 10-Gbit/sec. product line by introducing 1310-nm Fabry-Perot (FP) and distributed feedback (DFB) transmit optical subassemblies (TOSAs). These two products broaden CyOptics' 10-Gbit/sec. line, adding a lower-cost option, says Kou-Wei Wang, VP and Gm, InP OEM business, CyOptics.

SEPTEMBER 17, 2007 — CyOptics Inc. (Lehigh Valley, PA) completed its 10-Gbit/sec. product line by introducing 1310-nm Fabry-Perot (FP) and distributed feedback (DFB) transmit optical subassemblies (TOSAs). These two products broaden CyOptics' 10-Gbit/sec. line, adding a lower-cost option, says Kou-Wei Wang, VP and Gm, InP OEM business, CyOptics.

The lasers are designed as a ridge waveguide structure and contain indium/aluminum/gallium/arsenide-based (InAlGaAs-based) multi-quantum well (MQW) active layers for improved static and dynamic performance over temperature. The TOSA products incorporate an integrated indium/gallium/arsenide/phosphorus (InGaAsP) monitor photodiode and are packaged in a TO header with receptacle. They suit uncooled use over a -25° to +90°C operating temperature range. Transmission rates can reach up to 10.7 Gbit/sec.

The InP laser and detector chips are manufactured in CyOptics' fab in Breinigsville, PA; the cylindrical TO cans and TOSAs are manufactured by CyOptics' Asia-based packaging partners.

The TX299K (FP) and TX293K (DFB) TOSAs are compatible with the 10-Gbit/sec. miniature device (XMD) multi-source agreement (MSA) for high-performance transceivers addressing the OC-192/STM-64 SONET/SDH, LRM 10-Gbit Ethernet, and 8× fiber-channel market applications.
