Jabil Photonics trials generally available CFP2-DCO transceiver over unamplified links

Jabil Inc. and its Photonics business unit say that they have successfully completed field trials of their CFP2-DCO transceiver in which the optical module transmitted 100G over live unamplified metro/regional links.

Jabil Inc.'s (NYSE: JBL) Photonics business unit says that it has successfully completed field trials of its CFP2-DCO transceiver in which the optical module transmitted 100G over live unamplified metro/regional links. The 100G/200G CFP2-DCO is now generally available, Jabil adds.

The trials encompassed a pair of scenarios. The first saw the CFP2-DCO operate across a link of approximately 130 km. The link contained eight 100G QPSK channels with 32-dB error-free performance, aided by the use of soft-decision FEC. In the second scenario, which involved a single 100G wavelength, the CFP2-DCO optical transceiver demonstrated 38-dB 100G error-free performance across more than 150 km in the same working mode as the first scenario.

“The success of these network scenario trials demonstrates that Jabil’s module design can achieve these significant results, positioning the 100G/200G CFP2-DCO module as an optimized solution for unamplified metro data center interconnect and 5G networks,” said Stefano Schiavoni, vice president and general manager of Jabil’s Photonics business unit.

Jabil says the CFP2 DCO module is available within its subsystem portfolio and is under qualification at customer laboratories.
