Precision OT touts patents, upcoming PAM4 Access Reach Transceiver

Optical transceiver and related active/passive optical components supplier Precision OT says its Advanced Engineering Group has seen its work rewarded with nine patents from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, with more pending. This expertise will soon be displayed in the form of a new product, the PAM4 Access Reach (P4AR) transceiver, which the company plans to make available for demo and pre-order in the first quarter of 2022.

The patents cover optical networking, integrated photonics, and photonic radio systems. “The Advanced Engineering Group’s objective is to develop new technology that can assist network operators in handling higher data rates across longer distances and generating crucial efficiencies that can positively impact their bottom lines,” said Chris Page, CTO of Precision OT. “To that end, we’re proud to have recently earned nine patents by the federal government that have the potential to shape global optical networks for years to come. With many optical component providers on the market simply white-labeling products, our Advanced Engineering Group is a key differentiator for Precision OT. And we not only develop new solutions, but we share our engineering expertise with our partners to help them build the networks that will work for them now and into the future.”

The upcoming P4AR optical transceiver will be a 100G DWDM, QSFP28 switch-pluggable module that will deliver reach up to 40 km without the need for dispersion compensation modules and similar technology. The reach, in addition to support up to 4 Tbps capacity per fiber, will enable as much as 76% in capex savings, more than 8.5 kW of power savings, and 10RU of rack space savings, the company asserts.
