Finisar Australia debuts Flexgrid Twin 1x48 Wavelength Selective Switch

The company asserts the Flexgrid 2x1x48 WSS offers significantly more ports than other WSS alternatives in support of ROADM-based fiber networks.

Finisar Australia (which remained outside of II-VI’s acquisition of Finisar as a requirement of Chinese government approval of the merger) has introduced a twin 1x48 wavelength-selective switch (WSS). The company asserts the Flexgrid 2x1x48 WSS offers significantly more ports than other WSS alternatives in support of ROADM-based fiber networks. It thus supports the design of ROADMs with additional add/drop ports.

The Flexgrid 2x1x48 WSS is designed to support any channel width, from legacy fixed 50/100-GHz to arbitrary customer-controllable channels, using the company’s LCoS-based ITU-compliant Flexgrid technology.

Finisar Australia says it will accommodate requests for customized variants of the WSS with even more ports. The inaugural Flexgrid 2x1x48 WSS operates over the standard C-Band, but the company says that future version will support C+L Band requirements. operating range that Finisar Australia is already featuring in other products.
