OCTOBER 10, 2006 -- JDSU (search for JDSU) has announced a new 10-Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) module for its ONT-506 and ONT-512 product lines designed to help labs and manufacturers verify GbE network element reliability, interoperability, and quality of service (QoS).
The ONT-506/512 10 GbE module is part of JDSU's Metro Ethernet test portfolio, a range of Ethernet instruments, systems, and software for manufacturers, labs, and operators for successful development and delivery of next-generation broadband services.
With the addition of the 10GbE module, the ONT-506/512 supports the test needs of manufacturers and labs worldwide by offering Ethernet modules for complete testing across all major interfaces in the 10-Gbit/sec range (including 10GbE LAN, 10G SONET/SDH, 10.7G OTN, and 10G Ethernet-over-SONET/SDH, or EoS). Later this year, JDSU will offer a software upgrade for the 10GbE module that provides 10GbE WAN test features.
"The emergence of triple-play services, especially IPTV, is pushing manufacturers and labs to provide reliable metro Ethernet products to market and ensure QoS," said Bernhard Mueller, general manager of JDSU's optical transport Communications Test and Measurement group. "JDSU's ONT platform eliminates the need for multiple test platforms for research and development in the manufacturer labs and service verification testing in the operator labs, further reducing the time spent verifying new revenue-generating network systems and services like 10GbE."
Technical features of the new ONT-506/512 10 GbE module include LAN testing at 850, 1310 and 1550 nm; Layer 1 and 2 support; traffic generation, filtering, and analysis; and advanced automation features (SCPI, C-library).
The ONT platform is a multi-functional, multi-port, and multi-user platform for fast and flexible testing of optical network environments. The ONT is designed to address the optical and digital testing needs in R&D, SVT, and troubleshooting.
